Sony Ericsson has announced its Q1 2010 earnings and, despite forecasts of continued trouble for the high-end mobile phone maker, the company was able to report profits.
The number of handsets shipped by Sony Ericsson feel from 14.6 million in 4 2009 to 10.5 million in this latest quarter but that result was expected as the company moved to focus more on high-end phones, leaving fast-selling feature phones behind.
Increases in both gross and operating margins show that we are on the right track to build the correct cost structure for our business organization and strategy. We will continue to work through the transformation program to ensure that we are competitive.
Sony Ericsson president Bert Nordberg
With a total positive net income of 21 million EUR in this latest quarter, Sony Ericsson executives are happy to be leaving behind the 167 million EUR loss that they saw in Q1 2009; this profit report represents the first positive quarterly outcome for Sony Ericsson since 2008.
