magicJack Unveils USB VOIP Stick

American VOIP service provider magicJack has unveiled its new plug and play femtocell USB stick that will allow cell phone owners to make calls via the company’s voice network without using minutes from their carrier.

The network-independent device simply plugs into a cell phone, being immediately activated and ready for use as soon as users come within three meters of one of the company’s femtocell stations and automatically connecting. Once the connection is established and a phone call initiated over the VOIP network of magicJack’s parent company YMAX, a user is able to wander the “range of a 3000 square foot house” according to company reps detailing the device.

magicJack is promising 99.9% reliability to those who want to spend $20 per year on the company’s USB stick; YMAX claims that it currently delivers more than one billion minutes per month over its network.
