AT&T Supports Japan

American wireless provider has announced that it will make communications with those in Japan free through March 31.

Following the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunamis that struck Japan on Friday, millions of people around the world have been attempting to gather information on loved ones in that country. AT&T’s move to provide free communications is meant to remove the worry of large international calling charges given the already troubling cirumstances.

The fee-free period is in effect now for all AT&T customers.

AT&T Offers Tablet Postpaid Plan

AT&T has announced a new monthly offering for customers using tablet computers such as the Apple iPad, offering more data at slightly lower costs.

The new plan, with requires an existing prepaid plan to exist, allows for 250MB of monthly data for $14.99 or 2GB of data for $25. Overage fees, exorbitantly high with most contracts, are reduced to $25 for each 2GB of data used per month when using this plan.

No contract is requiried as the plan is pre-paid; AT&T says that users can sign up for the offering in participating stores such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart.

Motorola Atrix 4G Now Available

American wireless provider AT&T has officially began selling the highly-anticipated Motorola Atrix 4G, the first smartphone to find a home on AT&T’s new “4G” network.

The Motorola Atrix 4G is powered by a powerful 1GHz dual core processor and sports Google Android 2.2 “Froyo” as an operating system. a 4 inch qHD touchscreen display allows navigation of the device’s features and functions while also providing an attractive means of gaming and video watching.

The Atrix 4G is now available for $149.99 with a qualifying contract agreement along with the very cool but insanely-priced Motorola LapDock, a powerful pairing device for the Atrix, at $479.99

HTC Inspire 4G Revealed

An advertisement spotted in next month’s edition of Rolling Stone Magazine has outed the upcoming HTC Inspire 4G smartphone.

With expectations of a good showing from HTC at CES in Las Vegas later this week, the ad depicts several new phones from the company, including the HTC Thunderbolt for Verizon Wireless; the Inspire 4G is headed to AT&T. Both devices appear to run the Google Android mobile operating system but no specs are offered in the ad.

Details of both devices should be released at CES – we’ll keep you up to date on all the goodies to come later in the week!

AT&T to Launch Sharp FX

American wireless provider AT&T has announced that it is adding the Sharp FX to its lineup of Quick Messaging Devices.

With a Sidekick-like form factor (remember that Sharp was the main manufacturer behind T-Mobile’s Sidekick lineup), the Sharp FX sports a full slideout QWERTY keyboard alongside a touchscreen to allow for easy menu and feature navigation as well as touch-sensitive web browsing.

Multimedia and social features include a two megapixel camera, a built-in music player with a 3.5mm headphone jack and easy access to AT&T services such as Navigator, Social Net and Mobile Email and, most importantly, AT&T Mobile TV. For $9.99 per month, FX owners can watch channels like ABC Mobile, CNBC, Comedy Central and ESPN Mobile directly on the phone’s three inch WQVGA display.

The Sharp FX will be available in AT&T stores around the United States on July 25 at a cost of $99.99 with a two-year commitment.
