HTC Will Release Promised Unlocked Bootloaders

HTC has announced via its Facebook page that unlocked bootloaders are on the way for many of its high-end smartphones, as promised back in May.

To be available as early as September, these upcoming unlocked bootloaders will allow owners of several HTC handsets, including the Sensation, to install custom operating systems and other apps, patches and custom additions. HTC has said that the process needed to create and launch these bootloaders is a complication one; this is apparently the reasoning behind the months-long wait.

The first device to see the release of an unlocked bootloader will be the Sensation smartphone; the rollout is expected to begin sometime in August, with a rollout for the EVO 3D coming shortly afterwards. The full planned line of bootloaders should be fully released by September with plans continuing to provide the same service for other handsets later in the future.

Samsung Galaxy S II Sets Sales Record

Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S II, is working to bring that company back into the mobile spotlight and the recent announcement that it has quickly hit the 3 million mark in sales is proof that that work is creating fruit.

Samsung first introduced the line with the original Galaxy S, a popular device that reached 3 million units sold after 85 days on the market; the Galaxy S II has done the same in only 55 days. Considering the fact that the American market has yet to see a carrier release the device, Samsung is surely extra-pleased with these numbers.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is a popular smartphone sporting speedy performance, a slew of excellent features and a beautiful Super AMOLED Plus display.

It’s Official: X10 Gets Gingerbread in August

After an official announcement that Android 2.3 was coming for the Xperia X10 last year, then another official announcement to tell us that it was coming soon a few months ago, Sony Ericsson has finally offered up a release date: mark your calendars for August 1.

The Gingerbread update will begin rolling out to users with unbranded handsets then; everyone else has the option of hoping that their carrier releases it and then waiting it out, or simply allowing us to do the upgrading for them!

The Google Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” update for the Xperia X10 will give it a look similar to that of the recently released Xperia Arc and Neo and will include the Facebook Inside Xperia integration along with the ability to move apps to the SD card and long-awaited Flash support, among many other goodies packed into Gingerbread.

Sony Ericsson was kind enough to include a video of Android 2.3 in action on a prototype device; check it out below:
