HTC Will Release Promised Unlocked Bootloaders

HTC has announced via its Facebook page that unlocked bootloaders are on the way for many of its high-end smartphones, as promised back in May.

To be available as early as September, these upcoming unlocked bootloaders will allow owners of several HTC handsets, including the Sensation, to install custom operating systems and other apps, patches and custom additions. HTC has said that the process needed to create and launch these bootloaders is a complication one; this is apparently the reasoning behind the months-long wait.

The first device to see the release of an unlocked bootloader will be the Sensation smartphone; the rollout is expected to begin sometime in August, with a rollout for the EVO 3D coming shortly afterwards. The full planned line of bootloaders should be fully released by September with plans continuing to provide the same service for other handsets later in the future.

HTC Sensation Revealed

With an official announcement expected today in London, Vodafone UK has leaked details of the upcoming HTC Sensation smartphone early via its web site.

The Vodafone documentation, before being removed, listed the Sensation as an Android-powered smartphone with a 4.3 inch qHD Super LCD display at 540×960 resolution. Dual cameras are available, including a nicely-featured eight megapixel on the back with autofocus and dual-LED flash available. Under the hood lies a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon to power it all, with 4GB of internal storage and an 8GB microSD card supplied as well.

Further details concerning the HTC Sensation, including finalized technical specifications and release dates, are expected today from London.

Facebook Denies Mobile Hardware Rumors

Dan Rose, Facebook’s head of business development, has officially shot down rampant rumors of a Facebook-branded mobile device on the way from manufacturer HTC.

The comments were made to the Reuters news service following a long period of whispers concerning HTC’s Sense user interface and its very tight integration with Facebook’s social services.

This is really just another example of a manufacturer who has taken our public APIs and integrated them into their device is an interesting way. The rumors around there being something more to this HTC device are overblown.

Dan Rose, Facebook

Rose reiterated that, not only is there no Facebook-branded HTC device on the way, Facebook has no mobile hardware ambitions at all at this point.
